Our version of blackened seasoning is fresh and incredibly versatile than any of those you usually buy from the store. You can use this with chicken, lamb, shrimp, and fish- the possibilities are simply endless!

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp 1 Smoked paprika

  • 1 tbsp 1 Regular paprika

  • 1 tbsp 1 Onion powder

  • 2 tsp 2 Garlic powder

  • 1 tsp 1 Freshly ground black pepper

  • 1 tsp 1 Cayenne pepper

  • 1 tsp 1 Dried oregano

  • 1 tsp 1 Dried thyme

  • 1 tsp 1 Dried basil

  • Other ingredients:
  • 1 tsp 1 Fine sea salt or kosher salt

  • Equipment
  • 1 1 Mixing bowl

  • 1 1 Spice grinder/ food processor

  • Spoons

  • 1 1 An air-tight glass jar/container

Directions

  • Put all the ingredients in the mixing bowl and mix until thoroughly combined.
  • If you feel like the mix is too coarse, pour the content into the jar of your spice grinder or the food processor and pulse a few times until you get the desired texture.
  • Use it with your dishes immediately, or store it in a tightly-sealed glass container until you need it.

Notes

  • Although we have included salt in our recipe, you can totally skip it if you don’t want salt in yours.
  • Increase the hotness in your batch by increasing the amount of cayenne pepper used. And if you need it to be super hot and spicy, substitute hot paprika in place of regular paprika or use about a teaspoon of red chili flakes.
  • Throw in a dash of light brown sugar if you wish to have a complementary flavor.
  • This reasoning blend will stay fresh and flavorful when appropriately stored in a well-fitting glass container and kept in a cool, dry, dark place. Make sure to use new spices and herbs since the freshness of your ingredients directly affects the longevity of your blend.
