You must have tried plenty of store-bought versions of this sauce. But, we thought of sharing an easy chili and garlic sauce recipe to try at home. You can make this without any preservatives or artificial additives.

We have come up with a simpler version of this chili and garlic sauce using a minimal amount of ingredients. But there are some tips and tricks for the best taste and texture. So, let’s get started!

  • Spices
  • 4 oz 4 Fresh Red jalapeno peppers

  • 4 oz 4 Fresh Serrano peppers

  • 2 2 Heads Garlic (fresh)

  • Other Ingredients
  • 1 tsp 1 Kosher salt

  • 2 tsp 2 Granulated sugar

  • 1/3 cup 1/3 White distilled vinegar

  • 4 tsp 4 Water

  • 1 tsp 1 Cornstarch

  • Equipment
  • 1 pair 1 Kitchen gloves

  • 1 1 Kitchen towel

  • 1 1 Sharp knife

  • 1 1 Blender/ Food processor

  • 1 1 Strainer

  • 1 1 Stockpot

  • Spoons

  • 1 1 Small Whisk

  • 1 1 Air-tight glass mason jar


  • Preparation
  • Wash the fresh chile peppers clean and wipe them using a kitchen towel.
  • Wear the kitchen gloves and break off the stems out of the chile peppers. Cut open each of them and remove the seeds and membranes as much as you like. Cut the chile peppers roughly and set them aside.
  • Now, extract the garlic cloves from the heads and peel them clean. Wash the peeled garlic cloves, wipe them using the kitchen towel, and set them aside.

  • Making The Chili And Garlic Sauce
  • In your blender jar or food processor jar, combine the cut chile pepper pieces with garlic, distilled white vinegar, kosher salt, sugar, and three teaspoons of water.
  • Blend everything on medium speed until chunky.
  • Now, remove 1/4 of the blended mixture, turn the blender to high speed, and completely blend the remaining content of the jar.
  • Strain the liquified content so that you are left with the juices.
  • Then, add the strained juice and reserved chunky bits to a stockpot.
  • Meanwhile, combine the cornstarch in a small bowl with 1 teaspoon of water, and stir to mix thoroughly to make a cornstarch slurry.
  • You may heat the pot over medium-high heat. Once the stockpot is warm, add the cornstarch slurry to the chili-garlic mixture and boil.
  • After bringing the mixture to a boil, remove from heat and allow to cool completely.
  • You can now use this chili and garlic sauce with whatever you deserve. Or else, store it in an air-tight glass container and keep it in the refrigerator.

  • Use only one of the fresh chile peppers if that’s what you have at home. It could be either only red jalapenos or only serranos depending on your preference.
  • If you prefer a less heaty version of this sauce, try to use a mild version of red chile peppers such as a combination of cayenne peppers and red bell peppers. And, if you need more heat, you may go for something like red bird’s eye chiles.
  • We have used two heads of garlic in our recipe to make the perfect balance between the peppers and garlic. But you may use less garlic if that’s how you like it.
  • Make sure not to overcook the sauce mixture or else you will lose the beautiful vibrant orange color and also some parts of the flavor in this sauce.
  • Storage- This chili and garlic must be in the refrigerator until you finish it. Store it in a well-fitting glass container/ mason jar and use it for up to one month by keeping it refrigerated.
