There’s nothing quite like the aroma of a bubbling gumbo simmering on the stove, and this authentic Louisiana gumbo spice mix brings that experience home. A blend of smoked and sweet paprika, cayenne, garlic, and fragrant herbs creates a seasoning that dances between smoky, savory, and slightly spicy notes. Unlike store-bought mixes that can taste flat or artificial, this homemade version is vibrant, versatile, and made to elevate every pot of gumbo with depth and character.

Notes

  • This Authentic Louisiana Gumbo Spice Mix yields about ¼ cup, enough to season 2–3 quarts of gumbo.
  •  Add 1–1½ tablespoons per quart of gumbo, stirring into your roux just before adding the broth to release the full depth of smoky, nutty oils from the spices.
  •  Adjust the heat by adding extra cayenne pepper, or balance with a pinch of sugar for subtle sweetness. Store the spice mix in an airtight jar in a cool, dry place for up to 6 months.
